I'm a slappy geek (IT Systems Analyst at work, Gadget lover at play) and ready to do something to change my state of slappiness...time to de-slappify myself.
Unfortunately, my love for all things tech is, by it's nature, a very sedentary lifestyle which has lead me down the path of being slappy (overweight/obese, in case you were curious). After having three different doctors strongly urge me to lose weight and a blood pressure reading of 190/110...this new path became an absolute must.
I've joined the Weight Watcher ranks and found it to be a great gateway to my 'lifestyle change'. It has been a tremendous help to reducing my calories, while helping get in my daily intake of fruits, vegetables, calcium, water, omega-3's, etc...
As for fitness, I have been using my eliptical trainer at home because running outdoors was a little harsh on my knees. This has helped to ease my hand off the TiVo remote and onto the home exercise equipment. I now watch digitally recorded shows while huffing and puffing. =P
I look forward to meeting new and interesting people on here and finding new 'thinspirations' and motivators.

I need to hit the grocery store and stock up on healthy items to cook with and that way I won't be tempted to go out and eat. Plus, my wife has been slacking too, so I need to get her back on track because that is my home support system. When she was on track it helped keep me on track.
My new goal is to lose 40 lbs by July. This will keep me focused on a time goal and have me ready for the summer. I got a little wake up call when I had to take off my shirt in Hawaii. =( Though, at the time I blamed my leg injury for keeping me out of the gym. heheh
I was rushing the quaterback, he rolled outside and I pursued while trying to shift into a higher gear. As I turned and sprinted, I felt a pop in the back of my left leg and it didn't work so well anymore. Plus, it instantly felt sore. I knew things had gone wrong. I hobbled off to Urgent Care.
The Urgent Care physician said it may be a partially torn Bicep Femoris and yesterday my Primary Care Physician says it looks like a torn hamstring. Either way, I'm gimping around on crutches and awaiting my appointment with an Orthopedist. I just hope it heals in time for Hawaii.
I will now have to focus like a laser on my diet and really stay strict without the increase in metabolism from exercise. Wish me luck, folks!
Thanks! =)
Just wanted to pop by to give you a big BRAVO on your progress thus far. A half-way milestone is something to revel in to say the least--as exhibited by your new, low BP reading.
Have a great weekend both in and out of the gym.

I'm just trying to adjust my old football paradigm for weightlifting. I'm used to trying to build strength instead of losing fat. So, now I'm gearing towards just trying to keep my heart rate elevated so that I'm burning away. This means more reps, less rest...which in turn means less weight usually. That's the tough part because I like to load it up. heheh
After I lift for 30min to 1hr, then I go hit my cardio. It's either been a 15-20 min HIIT workout or a 60 min cardio grind. Either way, I have my head phones on hand to listen to a podcast or plug in and watch some TV. I think 4 more weeks of this and it will be a habit. Thanks to everyone for all the motivation!
Just keep fitting a trip to that gym into your schedule, so it becomes a part of your lifestyle. It can be an acquired taste, but one you grow to like.
I had a busy spell at work, then a neck injury kept me off the weight machines and the treadmill -- and I was really surprised, I actually missed the gym!
I now found the elliptical -- I'll confess I am not a big fan of that machine, but am liking it more now that I am better at it/fitter -- can give me a good workout in a shorter time, that in someways substitutes while I am under orders to avoid cycling and running while the neck heals.
I appreciate all the motivation and will once again report my progress on here. Wish me luck!
Doggone it. I thought I'd hate that gym, being an outside sports kind of guy. Like anything, some days are better than others, but in the end, it's great to see the tangible, and in this case, really "tangible" results.
Nice thing is, it complements what you are doing and is there when YOU want it.
These things can take a while but eventually you get the reward, like Stacy says.
At this rate, it will take longer than the 1 year timeframe I set for myself, so I may readjust based on my progress so far. I guess as long as I reach my goal and maintain it for the rest of my life, I will be happy. =)
My main goal is to get off all the bp meds and start a life that is free from any pharmaceuticals. I'll keep working at my weight and fitness. So, I'll post here to keep all my motivators and fellow fitness enthusiasts updated. Take care! =)
Also, by accurately tracking my Calories, I can now update my Diet portion on Traineo with much more accuracy. Reading Chris Aceto's Book, Everything you Wanted to Know about Fat Loss has inspired me.
